In this course, you will acquire the knowledge and skills
required to identify different types of computers. You will
learn about the components of a personal computer and how
these components work together. The course also includes the
knowledge and skills relating to computer storage as it
applies to hardware components like floppy and hard disks
and performance as it applies to processor speed and memory.

Objectives
- After completing this course, students will be able
to:
- Identify various types and sizes of computers
and computer systems
- Understand what components constitute the
hardware of a computer
- Identify the differences between input, storage
and output devices
- Make an informed decision on how to purchase a
PC appropriate for your requirements
- Understand the different kinds of software and
tasks for which they are suited
- Understand how software processes data
- Understand how software problems (or “bugs”) are
detected and resolved
- Identify common problems found with installing
and running software
- Log on to Windows XP
- Use the Start menu
- Customize the Start menu and the taskbar
- Log off of Windows XP
- Select commands in a Windows XP application
- Use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Examine components of your computer
- Create a new folder
- Copy and move a file
- Rename a file or folder
- Delete a file or folder
- Search for a file or folder
- Format a floppy diskette
- Change the system date and time
- Change the screen display
- Change audio volume
- Change mouse and keyboard settings
- Change a list of installed printers
- Use Windows XP accessories (Paint and
Calculator)
- Place a shortcut on the desktop
- Rearrange icons on the desktop
